Hang Over Shanghai carries on its dialogue between contemporary art, the city, the urban landscape and different communities, sustaining its state of being "suspended above the city" as a way to cross geographical, cultural, and spatial limits. During Shanghai’s busy art season, art is no longer merely an object to be viewed, but becomes a vessel connecting people to the city, promoting dialogue and social interaction.

This year, Hang Over Shanghai unfolds in a new venue: FUFU Shanghai, a historic block on Donghu Road in Shanghai. In the 20th century, this area served as an overseas Chinese affairs office and a public garden, deeply woven into the daily life of local residents. Now, after renovation, FUFU Shanghai has become a vivid space combining commerce and lifestyle, activating the relationships between space, architecture, people, and art through a dynamic ecosystem.

Hang Over Shanghai 2026 features galleries and artists from around twenty from different regions, over half of whom are participating for the first time. With the new venue, the project will unfold through more open relationships——exhibitions, screenings, performances—different forms of art will be presented by talents from all across the world, maintaining its observation of the contemporary art ecosystem while continuing to explore how art can happen beyond the gallery.

As Shanghai continues to transform, we hope to maintain an open and spontaneous environment to connect with the unfamiliar—allowing art to organically interweave with life and become a new starting point for future relationships.
